Most people try to avoid office politics - but office politics won't avoid you.
If you've ever been blindsided at work, confused by decisions that made no sense, or frustrated that hard work alone wasn't enough, this book will help you understand why.
In If You Don't Do Politics, Politics Will Do You, leadership expert Niven Postma demystifies the political dynamics that shape every organisation - whether we acknowledge them or not.
With clarity, warmth, and deep insight, she shows that political intelligence is not about manipulation or game-playing. It is about understanding people, relationships, influence, and power so that you can navigate your workplace with confidence and integrity.
Drawing on experience from corporate boardrooms, executive teams, business schools, and global leadership programmes, Niven helps readers learn how to:
Recognise the unwritten rules that shape organisational life
Read the room, understand agendas, and anticipate risk
Build political capital and strengthen strategic relationships
Use influence ethically to get things done
Protect yourself and your team in challenging cultures
Lead with clarity, purpose, and integrity, even in complex environments
Packed with real-world stories, practical frameworks, and accessible insights, this book equips readers at every career stage - from early career professionals to senior leaders - with the tools they need to thrive in modern workplaces.
If you've ever thought "I wish someone had told me this years ago," this book is that conversation.
It will open your eyes to what is really happening around you, why it matters, and how you can navigate your organisation more effectively - without losing yourself in the process.
Office politics exist. The only question is whether they will happen to you or whether you will learn how to handle them with intelligence, awareness, and integrity.
