Embrace the changing seasons with this beautifully illustrated collection of folkore and myths of The North.
Have you ever wondered how snow came to be white?
Or why the elusive March hare hurries through the fields?
From joyous tales of renewal and transformation for Spring, to hushed stories for long Winter nights, each season has a particular spirit which is celebrated in folktales from across the northern climes.
In these magical retellings of classic folktales, we journey from snowy mountain peaks to wild forests and stormy coastlines, as we observe the moon phases, find folkloric treasures and meet an array of strange and mysterious creatures. We'll encounter sprites, trolls, mythic beasts and monsters - from the bramble boggle (a mischievous member of fairy folk who is said to have given blackberries their thorns) to the sea witches and selkies who roam the Northern shores.
Each folktale is accompanied by stunning bespoke artwork by the author, Morvern Graham, who is a multi-award-winning illustrator, printmaker and storyteller. Her work celebrates the natural landscape and blends the ancient tradition of aural storytelling with playful visual artistry.
Through the power of stories we can light up our minds with a wild, child-like wonder, and reconnect our hungry souls to the natural rhythms of the shifting seasons.
