Welcome to Gull Bay - a picture-postcard harbour village in the Channel Islands where the sea sparkles, the cakes are legendary, and secrets lie buried beneath the golden sand.
Meet April Hart. New Gull Bay resident, café owner . . . and reluctant amateur sleuth.
The local Business Awards are just around the corner, and April is thrilled to be nominated.
But while she's discussing her outfit with her best friend, she hears an unwelcome sound outside the café: the unmistakable wail of a police siren.
Down by the beachfront, a crowd has gathered around the body of an older woman, dressed head to toe in expensive designer clothes.
The well-dressed stranger was striding purposefully towards April's café when she suddenly dropped dead. Natural causes? Maybe. But something doesn't add up.
Why was she in Gull Bay outside of tourist season? Why was she driving such an old car when her outfit screams millionaire? And was she really just after tea and cake?
Detective Mallet, April's police nemesis, says: "You always want to make a mystery of everything."
But this time April's curiosity might cost her more than she bargained for. Soon, it's not just her coveted Restaurant of the Year award at stake - it's her life.
Perfect for fans of Faith Martin, Fiona Leitch, the Rev Richard Coles, M.C. Beaton, Lucy Connelly and Ellery Adams.
Please note this is a completely revised version of Mixed Dressings.
Each book in the series includes a delicious recipe or two, for hungry readers who'd like to try some of the café's mouthwatering menu!

Meet the sleuth
Twentysomething April Hart never planned to become a café owner - let alone a sleuth. But when her grandma left her a rundown seaside café in her will, she packed up her bags and left her home in Manchester for a new adventure. She soon discovers that running a café in a harbourside village comes with more mysteries than menu specials . . . but she's always determined to solve the case and make sure justice is served in time for tea.
The setting
April lives in Gull Bay in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands - even though it's only five miles wide! A steep, winding lane lined with granite cottages leads down to the golden shore. There you'll find the beachside Sea Breeze Café, where April's undoubtedly busy serving tea and cake. Walk further along the harbour, to visit quirky independent shops. Remember to buy some locally-caught fish - and pause to breathe in the fresh sea air! But don't be fooled by the calm. In Gull Bay, even the quietest streets can be hiding secrets, just waiting to rise with the tide . . .

Über den Autor
Ashley Cain is an LGBT+ author who was born and brought up in Yorkshire, although has lived in London, France, Jersey and now Dorset. An avid reader from an early age of mysteries by Agatha Christie, Marion Babson and M C Beaton it was natural that when he decided to write his first fiction book, it was to cosy mysteries that he turned. His first series is set on the island of Jersey which he called home for 4 years. As his alter ego Andrew he is a tarot reader and antique dealer, both of which provide plenty of inspiration for future mysteries.
