Sheldon Michaels, HR Director at a metropolitan university, has seen and heard it all. In The University of Babylon the Vice Chancellor is convinced someone is trying to kill him, and Sheldon must navigate five dysfunctional deans, a vengeful former deputy and a campus where reality is optional.
Over eleven chaotic months his dry, wry account takes in everything from a UK Border Force inspection to bigamy, prostitution and lurid staff affairs. Strange incidents multiply-a naked man in the chaplain's flat, supermarket brawls, mysterious telephony rooms, cross-dressing students and a bee attack at the Garden Party. Beneath the farce a slow-burning tragedy of paranoia, betrayal and vengeance begins to surface, turning petty resentments into dangerous possibilities. Drawn from the authors' experience of British universities, this satirical campus novel skewers institutional indecision, compliance culture and the absurdities of academic life.
As suspicion spreads, anyone on campus could be the next victim-or the next conspirator. Will Sheldon expose the truth before another life is destroyed, or will the University of Babylon bury the crime to protect its reputation?
