Dem Geburtsjahr der Mark Brandenburg 1157 ging allerdings ein langer und komplizierter Entstehungsprozess voraus, der spätestens mit der Eroberung der Brandenburg, der Fürstenresidenz des slawischen Stammes der Heveller, durch den ostfränkischen König Heinrich I. im Winter 928/29 begann. Das Buch bietet einen detaillierten Überblick über die Anfänge der Mark Brandenburg und richtet sich an alle an märkischer Geschichte interessierten Leser. Es zeigt ihren Weg über die Mark Geros und die Nordmark bis zur Herausbildung der Mark Brandenburg unter Albrecht dem Bären im 12. Jahrhundert. Auch Gründung, Zerstörung und Wiederaufrichtung des Bistums Brandenburg gehörten zur Gründungsgeschichte. However, the birth of the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1157 was preceded by a long and complicated process that began at the latest with the conquest of Brandenburg, the princely residence of the Slavic tribe of the Hevelli, by the East Frankish King Henry I in the winter of 928/29. The book offers a detailed overview of the beginnings of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and is aimed at all readers interested in the history of the region. It traces its path from the Margraviate of Gero and the Northern Margraviate to the formation of the Margraviate of Brandenburg under Albert the Bear in the 12th century. The founding, destruction and re-establishment of the Bishopric of Brandenburg were also part of the region's founding history. The most important sources - primarily royal documents and chronicles - are arranged chronologically in excerpts and included in a Latin-German appendix.
