Each year the damaging effects of eating disorders kill more young women than perhaps any other psychological disorder. The causes of eating disorders are vast and vary among individuals. In an effort to more thoroughly understand and effectively prevent and treat these devastating disorders, Dr. Donovan has spent several years researching potential causes and risk factors. Although researchers generally agree that eating disorders and religiosity are sometimes connected, the extent of the relationship and the possible effects on one another are not yet completely understood as few studies have been conducted regarding the influence of religiosity on eating disorders. In this book Dr. Donovan examines a variety of issues related to the impact of religious beliefs on the development and progression of eating disorders and eating disordered behavior. The results of a comprehensive study completed by Dr. Donovan are presented and recommendations for future research are made.
